Palma Conference SPAN Poster Prize Winners

We held a special guided poster session as part of Day 1 of the conference. There were prizes for the best Early Career Posters including cash prizes and one year’s free Society membership. The poster prizes were supported by the Science for Prevention Academic Network (SPAN). The winners of the poster competition were:

EUSPR Palma Conference Update – 15/08/2014

The Fifth EUSPR Annual Conference and Members’ Meeting will be held at the Centre de Cultura “SA NOSTRA”, Palma de Mallorca, Majorca on 16th – 18th October 2014, with pre-conference workshops on the 15th October. Entitled: Is an ounce of prevention still worth a pound of cure? The economics and value of prevention.

This year’s EUSPR main conference theme is Economics of Prevention and the ‘value’ of prevention to society, although parallel sessions will include talks on a variety of prevention science topics. This year’s poster session will include a complimentary drinks reception, with SPAN again offering prizes with an equivalent value of €500 for the best posters by an Early Career Researcher. We will hold dedicated parallel sessions for PhD students and Early Career Researchers to present their work. Students, particularly full time students, will be eligible for discounted conference fees.

Call for abstracts

Social Dinner

This year we have booked the El Pesquero Restaurant, located on Palma harbour for our conference social dinner on the evening of Day 2 of the conference, 17th October. SPAN Bursaries

As part of the Science for Prevention Academic Network’s (SPAN) aim to establish stronger links to professional networks, they have provided bursaries of up to €500 to young prevention scientists (PhD Students, Post docs) to assist in travel and accommodation costs associated with pre-conference workshop attendance. The deadline for applications has now closed.

EUSPR Members’ Meeting and elections for the 2014 – 2017 EUSPR Board

All EUSPR Members are invited to attend the EUSPR Members’ Meeting, which will include the elections for the 2014 – 2017 EUSPR Board. The meeting will take place on the morning of Day 1 of the conference, 16th October, 9.30 – 12:15. Refreshments and a complimentary lunch are provided for members’ meeting attendees.

Renew your EUSPR membership or join the EUSPR to get the best conference and workshop prices, membership fees can now be paid via credit card. EUSPR Membership provides a significant discount for conference attendees, for example an EUSPR member attending the conference and a pre-conference workshop could save 75 EUR, compared to the membership fee of either 25 EUR, 40 EUR, or 80 EUR.

Coffee breaks

Served throughout the pre-conference workshops and the main conference: Coffee and decaffeinated coffee, variety of teas, mineral water and assorted fruit juices. Assorted biscuits, pastries, and mini croissants

Drinks Reception

Day 1, 16th October: Assorted domestic cheese selection and guacamole with nachos. Cava (sparkling wine), beer, water and assorted refreshments

Buffet lunches

Coffee, tea, water, assorted refreshments, beer, white and red wine will be provided.

Pre-conference workshops, 15th October (provided for all workshop delegates): Hot cream of vegetables, rice salad with vegetables and prawns, assorted green salad, fish of the day in green sauce, canard ravioli, fruit salad and almond pie with almond ice cream

Day 1, 16th October (provided for Members’ Meeting attendees): Vichyssoise, pasta salad, couscous and vegetables salad, cod au gratin with baked apple, lamb with sweet potato, fruit salad and white chocolate brownie with strawberries.

Day 2, 17th October (provided for all conference delegates): Seafood cream, tomato salad with basil and mozzarella, antipasti served with assorted lettuce, dip-fried breaded fish with Mediterranean tartar sauce, beef brochettes with vegetables, fruit salad and crĂšme caramel.

Delegate dietary requirements will be accommodated, please mention any requirements during registration.

Workshop 2 – Economic analysis and the cost effectiveness of prevention – Introduction to Economic Evaluation of Health Care Interventions

Dr Claire McKenna, Centre for Health Economics, University of York (UK)

Dr Claire McKenna is a Senior Research Fellow in the Team for Economic Evaluation and Health Technology Assessment at the Centre for Health Economics, University of York.  She has specific interests in the use of constrained optimisation methods in economic evaluation, the application of statistical and decision-analytic methods for cost-effectiveness analysis, the use of evidence synthesis techniques and value of information analysis to inform policy decisions in health care.  Claire is currently a member of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Technology Appraisal committee and of the NICE Decision Support Unit.

Ms Rita Faria, Centre for Health Economics, University of York (UK)

Rita Faria is a Research Fellow in the Team for Economic Evaluation and Health Technology Assessment at the Centre for Health Economics, University of York. Rita’s research interests are focused on the methods of economic evaluation applied to health and social care.  She has particular interests on the use of non-randomised data to evaluate interventions and the use of decision models for evidence synthesis and extrapolation. Rita has contributed to several technology appraisals for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
