Marina Alves de Souza
|At its conception in spring 2010 and since its foundation later in that year I have been involved in and supporting EUSPR with legal assistance, for instance in writing its bylaws, providing ad hoc legal counselling and, more recently in drafting its code of ethics and grievance procedures.
Over these years of life of the EUSPR I have seen how this society has grown and continues to provide a pleasant and informal climate for prevention researchers and practitioners to meet and engage. All this as a remote observer: I do not work in prevention but I always like to know the take-home-nuggets of prevention sciences.
Particularly I have seen how much the society is inclusive (with low, stratified conference and membership fees) and depends on the voluntary dedication and time of its board members.
Also important to mention that I am already volunteering for two years as treasurer of a WISTA - Women in Shipping and Trading Association (Switzerland unit), a global organisation formed in 1974 connecting female executives and decision-makers around the world. WISTA International serves as a connector for its network of more than 3,800 female professionals from all sectors of the maritime industry. Therefore, the position to which I was appointed is the exact same and EUSPR and WISTA seems somehow to be bound to a similar objective and scope.
These are the main reasons why I offer a share of my time – which as Global Head of Legal of an international enterprise – is as scarce as that of most of you.
Yet, I have experience in efficiently dealing with financial issues and in spotting legal issues that might arise when dealing with different jurisdictions. Therefore I believe I can help to effectively ease the burden of work for the EUSPR secretariat.
|Since 2007 I have been working in the prevention of risk behaviour in cooperation with the Department of Addictology, 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University (CUNI). Since 2019, as a permanent employee in the assistant professor position at CUNI.
I focus on quality and efficiency in preventing risky behaviour and training professionals in this area. I refer to effective strategies in the place of risk behaviour prevention at international professional meetings, including the implementation of quality control of primary prevention standards in practice.
In the Czech Republic, I co-founded the Professional Society for the Prevention of Risky Behaviour, which actively advocates for quality control of standards in practice (certification system) and is dedicated to teaching and training future practitioners in prevention.
As a treasurer, I will try to assist the EUSPR board in funding and finance. I will try my best to support the EUSPR Board in this area. I would also like to participate in and support EUSPR Board during discussions on the development of the EUSPR strategy.
