The deadline for abstract submission for the 13th EUSPR Conference has been extended until June 15th, 2022.

Abstract proposals for poster or oral poster presentations may be submitted through the Ex Ordo platform (https://euspr2022.exordo.com/submissions/new). All proposals will be peer reviewed and the scientific committee may suggest changes.

Call for Reviewer – Journal of Prevention

The Journal of Prevention is now the Official Journal of EUSPR. We are recruiting new reviewers that will help guarantee the publication of high-quality manuscripts in the Journal.

The “Call for Reviewer” offers an opportunity for Regular Reviewers who are already experts in prevention research and for Early-Career Researchers who wish to start reviewing manuscripts under the supervision of a member of the Editorial Board. Early-Career Researchers will receive mentoring from experienced researchers and have the opportunity to discuss their reviews with their mentors before they are submitted to the Journal.

Regular Reviewers refer to researchers with more than five years of experience (after their doctoral degree) in the prevention field with expertise in the process of reviewing manuscripts.

Early-Career Researchers are doctoral students, postdoctoral scholars, and researchers with less than five years of experience (after their doctoral degree) interested in developing expertise in the peer-review process in the prevention field. Candidates from different disciplines are encouraged to apply, particularly those interested in prevention or health promotion in the fields of substance use and abuse, mental health, infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, violence prevention, sexual health, or academic performance. Applicants that are interested in prevention methodology, research methods, and different qualitative and quantitative study designs in prevention science, are also very welcome.

Candidates that apply for the position will be added to our reviewer database and be asked to state their areas of interest. The journal editorial board will analyze the applications, and candidates will be contacted as soon as we have a paper that matches their areas of interest.

The main goal is to offer an opportunity for Early-Career researchers who wish to start reviewing manuscripts under the mentorship of a member of the Editorial Board to increase the pool of quality reviewers of the Journal of Prevention.

JOP is committed to providing timely reviews, and reviewing a manuscript takes time (1–4 hours per manuscript reviewed depending on your expertise). Reviewers are generally asked to complete assignments within three weeks of manuscript submission. If you are selected to review a manuscript, be prepared to invest the necessary time to evaluate the manuscript thoroughly. At each issue, JOP features an ‘Acknowledgment of Reviewers’ section naming all those who have actively peer-reviewed for that issue to give reviewers public recognition.

To register your interest, please fill in this form.

EUSPR current activities

Dear members of the European Society for Prevention Research,

I wish you all a prosperous and enjoyable new year. Hopefully we are expecting more and more intense encounters. Looking back on difficulties and suffering, we also have experienced and studied emerging, sometimes fierce facets of prevention. The online meetings EUSPR was able to establish showed that not only the changed mode of gathering was appreciated, but also the focus on COVID related topics we are working with.

We have several exciting activities ahead. First of all this year takes off with the renewed version of the well-known Journal of Primary Prevention. The journal is from 2022 on affiliated with EUSPR and will carry a new name. As an EUSPR member you have free access and will have lots of possibilities to submit articles, papers, briefs. The first edit is about to be published, stay up to date!

Our meeting and conference will this year take place in Tallin, Estonia, 28 to 30 September. With the theme “Prevention – Between Ethics and Effectiveness”, the Tallin team and scientific committee are preparing a strong program with a variation of meeting modes.

From this year on EUSPR is co-producing a Prevention Track in the LXAddiction conferences (https://www.lisbonaddictions.eu/lisbon-addictions-2022/). The 23-25 November 2022 conference in Lisbon will have a stronger and more intense presence of prevention expertise. You can submit abstracts for three themes: Cultures of prevention, Environmental prevention and Cross-domain prevention. Mind the deadline in the Abstract Submission page for LX Addictions: 31 January. Please take this opportunity to strengthen the voice of prevention science in this network of addiction professionals.

Looking forward to meeting you in the course of this year,

Peer van der Kreeft,

President of the EUSPR
