![]() Layan Amouri | Social worker | Research Assistant, Örebro University I am honored to accept the nomination for Early Career Representative on the EUSPR Board. As a professional social worker with a Master’s in Social Work, my work focuses on psychosocial prevention and adolescent well-being, particularly among newly arrived youth. Through evidence-based interventions, I aim to support their adjustment, social inclusion, and long-term well-being. Having experienced migration during adolescence, I understand both its challenges and strengths. As a junior researcher, I challenge deficit-based views of migration, emphasizing youth agency, community resources, and resilience. Prevention science plays a crucial role in creating environments where young people can thrive, and I am committed to advancing inclusive, strength-based approaches that provide meaningful support to youth and their families. Contributions to Prevention Science in Europe My work experience includes taking active roles in research, program development and implementation, and policy engagement at both national and international levels: • As a research Assistant at Örebro University in Sweden, I contribute to the PIA Project, PIA Youth Program, a project aimed at enhancing the psychosocial well-being and adjustment of newly arrived youth and their families. My work includes coordinating and implementing the youth program, training youth leaders, and ensuring research-driven improvements in intervention strategies. • I completed the European Prevention Curriculum (EUPC) – Frontline Politeia Training, strengthening my knowledge of European prevention policies and evidence-based interventions. • My contribution to research on youth well-being, migration, and prevention has been presented at national and international conferences such as the EUSPR, ISSBD, and EARA, and submitted and published in peer-reviewed journals. • As a member of the Globalisation, Migration and Social Cohesion (GLOMISCO) research group, I assist in research on transnational social work, migration policy, critical perspectives in social work education, and integration strategies in Sweden and Scandinavia. • I actively volunteer with the EUSPR Early Career Forum to help develop networking, training, and career development opportunities for early-career researchers. • I have collaborated with researchers across Europe, co-organizing seminars and national conferences on prevention science and social work. • I have provided brief input to the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA) on youth prevention strategies in asylum reception settings. Plans to Advance the EUSPR Mission & Support the Board EUSPR has been an incredibly supportive community, and I want more early-career researchers to benefit from this experience. If elected, I will: • Strengthen mentorship and networking, ensuring ECRs can connect with senior researchers and professional networks. • Highlight challenges and needs of ECRs, advocating for more funding, training, and representation within EUSPR. • Promote ECR-led initiatives, increasing opportunities for early-career researchers to lead panels and drive collaborations. • Foster a more inclusive early-career network, ensuring ECRs feel supported and valued. Early-career researchers are not just the future of prevention science—they are the present. Our voices, challenges, and ideas shape the field, and I am eager to represent my peers and contribute to EUSPR’s continued growth. |
